Chiropractic Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the plantar fascia, the bottom side of the foot.  This tough ligament-like fascia (tissue) stretches from the heel to the front of the foot.

Symptoms show up as a painful, inflamed underside of the foot. Most people have difficulty walking for the fist few steps. Most complaints relate to the first steps in the morning upon arising from bed or aftera period of prolonged sitting.   Longstanding cases of plantar fasciitis can demonstrate more degenerative changes than inflammatory changes, which would be termed plantar fasciosis.

Plantar fasciitis usually occurs when the ankle and foot bones are not in their proper alignment. This misalignment results in the fascia being pulled too tight leading to inflammation and heel spurs.

Plantar Fasciitis Treatment at Enliven Chiropractic

We use a four step process to treat plantar fasciitis

1. Correct the alignment

The foot and ankle bones must be re-positioned to their natural state using chiropractic adjustment.  X-rays may be utilized to view the current foot and ankle bone position and assist in the realignment process.

2. Release the tight muscles

Muscles in the foot and calf are often in spasm and stretched beyond their normal limits. Myofacial release work and specific stretching protocols will help restore and maintain the proper alignment of the foot and ankle bones. Myofascial release has various trade names like Graston Technique and Active Release Technique (ART)

3. Laser therapy

Low level laser therapy helps to reduce inflammation and jump start the healing process. Enliven Chiropractic utilizes a Class III Erchonia laser in plantar fasciitis treatment.
